Damping of vibrations is often required to improve both the performances and the integrity of engineering structures, e.g. gas turbine blades. In this article we explore the possibility of using the piezoelectric plates to control the multimode vibrations of a rotating cantilever beam. To develop an effective control strategy, and optimize the placement of the active piezoelectric elements in terms of vibrations amplitude reduction, a procedure has been developed and a new analytical solution has been proposed. The results obtained have been corroborated by comparison with the results from a multi-physics finite elements package (COMSOL) and data from other models available in the literature. |
