The current research focused with the optimization of the heat flux from the surface of a hot steel test plate by air atomized water spray cooling. The air atomized water spray cooling experimental setup was designed and fabricated at School of Mechanical Engineering KIIT University, Odisha, India to investigate the role of various process parameters to enhance the heat flux from the surface of the heated steal specimen. The dimensions of test specimen used in the experiment were 120 mm X 120 mm, having different thickness of 4 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm. The effect of the process parameters such as thickness of the test plate, nozzle to plate distance, air and water pressure for removal of heat flux were optimized. The optimization of the controlling parameters was carried out by using the response surface method (RSM). A new correlation was developed for optimization of the surface heat flux. |
