Abstract :
In this paper, we present a new approach for estimating the risk of foundation’s failure of which the design was made using the conventional safety factor. We also present the results of numerical simulations applied to a continuous spread footing foundation based on a grainy dry soil where the geotechnical characteristics are a random spatial variables. Indeed, we show that for the soil which has a high natural variability the probability of failure associated with the standard safety factor becomes important then, in this case, a good choice of the safety factor is necessary.
